Waitakere Dam Tramline Centenary
	Celebrating 100 years 1905 - 2005

The year, 2005, marks 100 years from the commencement of construction of the Waitakere Tramline. WaterCare Services Ltd in association with the Waitakere Tramline Society held a Centennial celebration running from 15th Oct to 30th Oct 2005.

Join us as we relived the first train trip that took men, machinery, and materials to the Waitakere Dam base camp on this charming and historic two-foot gauge bush tramline piercing the Waitakere Ranges through George's Tunnel, cutting through native bush to burst out of a second tunnel to the sight the 100m high Waitakere Falls.

The event on weekends and Labour Day, ran three trains providing a continuous thirty minute shuttle service. WaterCare Services Ltd "Rain Forest Express" locomotives and carriages made up two trains, together with the Waitakere Tramline Society's train, "The Dam Tram" to make up the third train. Charter trips were available on weekdays and evenings.

Included in the day's ticketed events was:

• A train ride
• View Glow Worms and Wetas
• A guided tour of the "State of the Art" Waitakere Water Filter Station
• Discover the "Ark in the Park" Mainland Island Native Bird Sanctuary growing in the beautiful Waitakere Ranges
• A Marquee housing historic displays. Plus other attractions

The celebration was held from 15th to 30th October 2005

Waitakere Tramline Society did not run our usual Sunday trips during this period.
