The Dam Tram on a post card

Nestled in the beautiful Waitakere (pronunciation: Why-tar-ker-ree) Ranges, approximately 30 minutes from Auckland's CBD is the Waitakere Tramline.

Built in the early 1900's for the construction of the Waitakere Dam, this 2-foot gauge tramline is a working piece of history.

The upper 2.5 km portion of the line has been retained by Watercare for maintenance of the pipeline. The lower 3.5 km portion, from George's Depot down past the filter station to Swanson station, was removed around 1927.

Welcome aboard the Dam Tram!

During the journey, we pass through two tunnels, over bridges and viaducts, view a fascinating Glowworm display and see cave Weta's. All while travelling through beautiful native bush, to Picnic Flats.

After Picnic Flats and exiting a second tunnel the Train rounds a bend and through the native bush you have a magnificent view of the Waitakere Falls with the dam on top.

When we stop at the end of the line you have the opportunity to walk up the steps and onto the top of the dam.

We'd love to see you on the Dam Tram!
